Christmas is in one week!!

We’ve had a pretty good weekend so far. Friday was a quiet day at home with the boys. I like to break it up somehow so we went to the post office to mail some Christmas presents. We usually use the self-service machine and Kevin loves to drop the packages and turn the barrel. But we had to go stand in the regular line and he was so upset. He cried really loud in there and Adam didn’t want to be confined so we were all over the place. I’m sure we were a sight. There was a lady from my ward right behind me in line so I kind of counted on her to keep my place while I followed the boys around. We ended up going out to the self-serve line after double checking the best way to mail the package. So Kevin got to drop the package after all.

Speaking of the post office, we went last week and the line was out the door and all the way across the lobby. There was a sign on the self-service machine that said “out of order”. I rolled my eyes and mumbled under my breath. Really it didn’t matter, I had nowhere else to go; I’m working on that attitude. So I got in line but Kevin went over to the machine and started pushing buttons because that’s what we always do. I walked over and the screen was lit up so I looked and everything looked normal. So I figured I’d try it out and maybe I could at least find out how much postage I needed and then go home and mail the box. Well, the machine worked just fine! I think the whole thing was a cruel joke. I was so glad Kevin wandered over there and we went right home and took naps!

Back to Friday night – it was our ward Christmas party. When we got to the stake center I told Kevin we were at church for a party. He started asking for his backpack because he always takes it to church. He was pretty upset that we didn’t bring it. As for the party, you all should have been there for my debut performance of “Santa Baby”. Good thing I was singing with 5 other people and one of those women brought her husband on stage so we could sing to him. He stole the show. But we were the final act of the night so you know it was good. :)

The party was your regular ham dinner, green beans, rolls, etc. I brought funeral potatoes (my first time making them but they provided me a recipe so I didn’t worry about how they tasted). Then we had the talent show – accordion playing, Chipmunk singing, mannequin dancing (that one was pretty cool), and deacon harmonica playing. It was a good time. And to top it all off, Santa Claus came. Kevin would have been kicking and screaming and Adam wouldn’t have cared, plus they weren’t giving away any brown bags, so we skipped Santa. Besides, we already went to Walmart for our free ghetto picture with Santa. Check it out…

I didn’t really want to share this until I actually mail some cards, but Shutterfly is giving me $10 to do it so why not! :)

Holiday spirit

We baked sour cream cookies today, great grandma Jordan’s recipe. Grandma Jordan did not say how long to bake them. It was my first time and I learned that I need to cook them longer than I did (13 min.). Adam and Kevin helped. Kevin added all the sprinkles and even dumped the entire shaker full of chocolate pieces. We tried to spread them around.

Adam licked the beaters.

Kevin spread out the dough.

This was right after he dumped all the chocolate sprinkles.

The finished product. I wish it was easier to post video on here. I got an awesome one of him dancing.

Kevin “updated” the advent calendar.

Then the boys took a break to spell some words on the iPad. Kevin allowed Adam to watch without pushing him away. That was pretty unusual, but I enjoyed it.

I went to the Relief Society Christmas party too, but I almost turned around and came home because the house was so hard to find. It was in this gated community that had no lights and the address was 6446-84. What?! When I looked it up on my phone it sent me to Iowa! After about 20 minutes I found it, then went in to a party where I hardly knew anyone. I did find a few people to chat with and ended up having a good time.

Oh well

I don’t think anyone should apologize on their blog, you know, “I’m sorry I haven’t written in so long, I’m the worst blogger!” But, I guess I’m going to do it myself. It’s just that I have all these things that happened all year that I wanted to get onto the blog and I haven’t done it and I’ve kind of been waiting to put anything current because I want to do that first. Darn perfectionist tendencies. I’m sure lots of you can relate. So, I just have to write something. Nothing monumental today, just some little things about my boys.

We ran some errands today and we stopped at McDonald’s for lunch. Yep, we like to eat there. I grew up on it and I think it’s fun. So, Kevin climbed up the play structure and drove the little truck for a while. I tried to get him to come down and eat, he made it about 1/2 way then went back up. All the way up. To the top of the slide that he was not going to slide down. I could hear him whimpering but I couldn’t see him. I figured he’d find a way down. Then a little girl named Kaylee wanted to go down the slide. When this little girl went into the play room she walked up to the first kid there and said, “Want to be my friend?” I wish it was that easy now! So, Kaylee wanted to go down the slide and Kevin was in her way. I’m sure she was trying to help him go down but suddenly I heard his really upset cry and I knew it was over. I had to climb up and get him. I left Adam on the floor. Kaylee’s grandmother was down there and said she’d watch him. Yikes! (Not a grandmotherly type, she looked a lot younger than my mom, please don’t take that as an insult mom!) But I figured as long as Kaylee was up in the structure, she wouldn’t haul Adam away. I got up to the top and was able to bring Kevin down. He ate a couple fries and one chicken nugget then wanted to go back up to play. Adam ate an entire cheeseburger and a bunch of fries. I’m sure he would have eaten a lot more. That boy is a bottomless pit.

Yesterday Kevin helped me out a lot with stuff. He swept up Adam’s lunch crumbs. When I got the broom and dustpan he took them from me immediately and swept the crumbs all around the room. Then he went over to sweep up pine needles from under our tree. Then he tried to hit the tree to knock more needles off. He remembered that from helping us when we first brought the tree home.
At bedtime I was reading from the Bible and Kevin and Adam were looking at the Book of Mormon reader. They were sitting at a little table and Kevin was pointing at a picture of Angel Moroni saying, “Adam, Jesus” over and over again. Adam was looking the other way so Kevin tried to push his head back over to look at the book. He’s such a helpful big brother. Then when Adam got off his stool and walked away Kevin took it over and put it on Adam’s head with the legs around his head, then pushed Adam’s head and stool into the wall. So sweet.

There, I wrote something. No pictures and I just sort of rambled so if you haven’t made it this far that’s ok. I just hope that someday I will print this out in a book and Kevin and Adam’s grandchildren can read about them.

:)
