attack of the killer…

stretch marks!

That’s right, I woke up this morning and saw those red lines on the bottom of my belly.  I thought I was doing pretty good fighting them off this far, but now they are here and they have 5 weeks to take over my belly.  So, what can I do that will really keep them from getting too bad?  I am open to suggestions.

No pictures of the stretch marks to be seen here, but here is my most recent belly shot.  This was on Sunday.  A couple people have said they think my belly is dropping, so we decided to take a picture to check it out.  I kind of think it is.

More baby news…it seems like everyone around me is having their babies and it’s making me kind of anxious, and a little bit jealous.  One of my friends had her baby on April 29 and I think her due date was June 4.  Five weeks early!  Then two more friends had babies yesterday, one was 6 weeks early!  Her due date was 5 days after mine!  And today one of our managers at work left early because his wife’s water broke, another manager had her baby on May 7, another friend at work had her baby on May 12, and a couple weeks ago another manager’s wife had triplets!  Yeah, those sweet little boys were all 3 pounds each.  That seems like a lot of babies lately.  Now I am waiting for my turn.  I will just have to wait while my baby gets fatter and fatter!  I guess it’s better that way.  I am really heppy for everyone and their new babies.  I can’t wait to see them all in person!

Becky you look so cute prego! (and I love that dress!) I hated the waiting game. Our next door neighbor was due a week after me and had her baby three weeks before me. I cried because I was so jealous. Those crazy prego hormones made me so emotional! But your time will come and it’s going to be GREAT!!! I can’t wait to see a picture of this adorable little one!

PS…. Sadly I don’t think there is any real scientific remedy for stretch marks other than getting the kid out. :(

Cute picture…I remember when Karrie had Jessie 6 weeks before me and I wanted my baby SOOOOO bad. Hang in there! :)

When I was pregnant with Ethan and taking the birth class at LDS hosp. in Salt Lake, the nurse told us that really there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent stretch marks and so not to buy into any miracle lotion or medicine that claims to prevent them. She said it was completely genetic and has to do with the amount of elasticity in your skin. I also have friends who swear by Cocoa butter lotion, saying that if you lather your belly up in that every day it will prevent stretch marks. I would say it doesn’t hurt to use the lotion, and if it does indeed help then it’s worth it, but I do believe that a lot of it has to do with genetics. I didn’t use the lotion religiously so I don’t know if it would have helped or if it did actually help to reduce the amount I got, but I still got stretch marks. Luckily they do (at least they did for me) fade with time, and there is medicine out there that can help fade them. I remember how hard it got the last couple months of pregnancy, because you are so eager for it to be over to have your little one. Good luck I hope that the coming weeks are not too bad for you.

So, to prevent further stretch marks and weight gain, I just had mine 5 weeks early. It wasn’t planned like that, but… no more stretch marks or weight gain! I wouldn’t recomend that. I will take the stretch marks next time (if there is a next time ;) ) just so as not to have the baby early. You look adorable! I bet you are getting so excited! Hang in there. Once the baby comes, you never get sleep. Ever again. Seriously. :)

Welcome to the club! I thought I escaped stretch marks too, but they snuck up on me at the end of Abby’s and Ellie’s. With Sophie’s I tried the Burt’s Bee Mama Bee Belly Butter. I didn’t get anymore stretch marks, but more importantly, my belly wasn’t as itchy. There’s my two cents. You do still look fantastic. Keep that baby cooking…we’re betting on a 9 pounder!!

Where the heck did you get that dress? It is so cute! I have been trying and trying to find some reasonably priced, modest, cute maternity dresses. I’ve been failing miserably.

You look great. And, don’t get too jealous of them having their babies yet. You know it’s better that that kid stay put for a while. Too early can be way scary.

    Yay!!!!!!

I agree with everyone else…there is no way to really avoid getting them, and once you have them, they are there to stay! No fun!
But I loved getting the Cocoa Butter Cream or Belly Mama’s Lavender belly cream. It feels so good to rub on a stretching tummy. Or better yet, having hubby rub it on!

Yeah, I know there’s really nothing I can do about it, but it doesn’t hurt to ask! At least I can’t see the stretch marks unless I’m looking in the mirror since they are on the underside of my giant belly! ;)

The dress is from Motherhood – it’s not my favorite store, but there are not a lot of options out there. I think their return policy is the worst one I’ve ever experienced. But, John found this dress for me there and I like it. Most of the knee length ones feel like they are just barely too short, but this one is actually a comfortable length.

You are seriously the cutest preggo out there! I can’t believe you only have a few weeks left!

My stretch marks came at about 28 weeks and itched like crazy. That was the worst part. They’ve faded so you can hardly see them anymore but the perpetually saggy tummy is worse.

The last few weeks seem to take 9 months all over again–at least for me! But, healthy babies are worth the wait…you look great!

You look so good! And the reason everyone is having babies and you notice is because you have baby radar now. It is a fact, when you are pregnant, you notice other pregnant women more and just how many there are. I remember how it is. Hang in there! It is way better to have an on-time baby. Are you going natural or will you have an epidural?

  13. Crystal says:

You look great! After Matt intubating NICU preemies, try to hold out until at least 38 weeks. It sounds hard right now, but your little boy will be so much healthier. Of course he will come when the Lord says it’s time. As far as stretch marks, I got them on the underside of my belly, too. They will get lighter. There is no magic cure, but a lotion with Vitamin E (Shea Body Butter or Vitamin E Body Butter from the Body Shop are great) help moisturize the skin and help them heal easier.

I hope the next few weeks fly by!
