Bitter Sweet

Published by John under Our Blog

The story goes, my Grandpa Sherrill was a farmer. When working on the farm all the tractors used diesel fuel. So my Grandpa bought a Mercedes Benz that ran on diesel, so he could use the same fuel as the tractors. I think Grandpa got his first Mercedes Benz in the 1950s. He only drove a Mercedes Benz for the rest of his life. He ended up owning several of them over the years.

As a boy I remember my Grandpa and his Mercedes Benz. The Mercedes Benz he owned is the one I remember the most. I remember the first time I saw it. I climbed in and started playing with the radio and all the buttons. I tried to use the car phone but to my disappointment it did not have service.

My Grandma continued to drive the car after my Grandpa passed away. Now my Grandma has given up driving. I volunteered to sell it and send my Grandma the money. I ended up selling the car to a good friend of mine in Texas. I have been driving the car off and on for the last couple of months. I enjoyed driving it for sentimental reasons and because it feels like a tank.

Last night the shipping company came to my office and picked the car up. They loaded it onto a car shipping trailer. I watched them load it on and strap it down. I told the driver to take good care of the car. It should be in Texas in 3 days.

I was really sad to see it go. That car meant alot to me and it was like saying goodbye to my Grandpa. I pulled the license plate off the car as a keep sake. It was a 1982 Mercedes Benz 300SD. The original sticker was about $38K. Also, it has 248,000 miles on the odometer.

My Stash

Published by John under Our Blog

I have this drawer in my desk that has a bunch of food in it. Every now and then I rummage through the draw and pull out something to eat or drink. I also, make sure I keep replenishing it on a regular biases. Today, I thought it was looking pretty good.
