why do country songs always make me cry?
Country music is my favorite type of music. It must be because I am a sap and the stories in the songs always make me sentimental. When I was younger I used to listen to Reba McEntire’s CD “For My Broken Heart” over and over with my sister. We thought that was the greatest CD. That CD is full of sad songs. It will make you cry. I have to go on a tangent for a minute…I just looked up Reba’s website to see how to spell her name and there is a music video posted there that stars Steve Howey and Joanna Garcia – Reba’s daughter and son-in-law on her tv show. That show is funny! There aren’t any new episodes, so it was fun to see them together onscreen again.
Anyway, back to the music. A while ago I was driving and I heard the song “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins. He is not my favorite country singer (I like the older stuff better) but the song made me tear up! I just kept thinking that I need to appreciate my life the way it is now and not wish for the future when I won’t have to take any more tests and we won’t live in an apartment and I will have kids. I really have a lot to be grateful for now and I’m sure I will look back and miss these days when it was just me and John doing crazy things like moving to California without jobs. It’s true too, I already look back and miss the times in the past.
Then today I was driving to work and I heard this song by Holly Dunn. It totally made me cry! One feature about my dad that I will always remember is his hands. My dad is a farmer and his hands are calloused and black from all the dirt and oil he works with . He has injured his hands so many times working out on the farm to take care of my family. And just like the song says, I have seen his hands folded in prayer and many times he had to threaten us with his hands (and belt) but don’t worry, I don’t remember ever being hit. One of my favorite memories is one day I was out helping my dad change water and we walked home holding hands and talking. I love my dad!
It’s a good thing everyone else in my office is at lunch now because this is making me cry right here at my desk.
I totally understand! That song “Your gonna miss this” totally makes you stop and think! Every part of my life I look back and think “Man I wish I could redo that and enjoy it!” There is another country song about a gal saying she’ll walk. That is a good song to! I think that is why the songs that do so well are the ones that people can relate to and get sappy to!
That Trace Adkins song ALWAYS makes me cry. I have bawled a couple of times when that song comes on. I don’t know what it is about it…it just makes me think of when we lived in our apartment or even when we were dating and how fast that time went and it makes me sad to think that our kids will grow up so fast.
I’m a sap, too. This post made me tear up!!
I never cry while listening to country music. Only sometimes I want to cry because it hurts my ears. I mostly don’t like country music. However, I am listening to Kenny Rogers right now on my iPhone.
Have you heard that song Stealing Cinderella?? I still can’t listen to the whole song! Dang country songs!
I’m with you. I love country songs.
I like how much emotion they bring out–the whole gamut.
I love the Reba show! That video was kind of wierd though. I like Van and Cheyenne when they are a happy self absorbed married couple!:)
P.S. Just wait until you are pregnant, then all of those country songs will really make you cry and pretty much everything else…maybe that was just me though.;)
