Busy weekends…

So about 2 weeks ago after we saw Wall-E in Hollywood, we went to Bakersfield, CA. This trip to Bakersfield was different because we were going to spend all weekend there. During my time there I wanted to actually see the town. In the past I have been to Bakersfield many times but only to see family and go home.

My little cousin David and his wife took us around town. On Friday night we went to Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace for dinner and dancing. It was awesome!

Then the next day we went to Wool Growers for lunch. After lunch Lindsey took us around town and showed us the nice parts of town. I was surprised at how large Bakersfield is and the division between East & West. I really got a better perspective of Bakersfield and what it has to offer.

For dinner we met up with everyone, including my cousin Jimmy.

On Sunday we had our usual family dinner at Uncle David’s house and drove home. On the way home we met my Dad in LA and he showed us this really neat water fountain.

Bakersfield was really fun too. I really enjoy getting to visit with John’s extended family. This was the first time we had gone to Bakersfield and John’s parents weren’t there for us to fall back on. We spent Friday with John’s grandma Sherrill. We drove her around to run her errands (she is 94 or 95 years old and she is having trouble with her vision.) It was fun to spend the day with her, she has a lot of spunk. We had lunch at Chipotle and the guy in the table next to us thought it was great that we were spending time with grandma. Visiting the Bunting’s was great too. We always appreciate their hospitality. Plus there are two cute little babies I got to hold. The Crystal Palace is really fun – I want to take my sisters there to go country dancing. Wool Grower’s is a Basque restaraunt and it reminded me of going out to eat in Burley, ID, it had a very small town feel. Oh – and John’s dad was in LA because he works for the railroad and he rode the train down there for work. He was so giddy and excited to show us that cool fountain. It plays music and the water display goes along with the music. Very cool!
