time for some running reports

John and I got schooled by Marcy on the running contest. How did the rest of you do? I claimed to be too busy studying to run and John got sick and then never got back into the running groove. He does work a lot of hours and my schedule right now is a cycle of sleep/work/study. But, I did sign up for a race…

Well, I didn’t sign up for the half-marathon, I am not quite ready to commit to that. But I figure I can pull off a 5k. I’m really excited because Mariah (John’s sister) and some friends are going to run too. Also, the half-marathon is $100 and my company will only reimburse me $30. The 5k is $40 so I figured I could pay the $10 difference. I am excited, I have never run a real race before. John is not running, he says a 5k is not enough to motivate him.

  1. Cool, good for you. I just hope someday I’ll be motivated enough to run and get rid of my fatness…here’s hoping.

Way to go Becky! I am hoping I can do some race before the end of the year! Good luck!

Well, I went back to Curves today and couldn’t even get my heart rate up past 90. Wow! I didn’t go for almost two weeks and now it’s like almost starting over! John- better get up and run or you’ll be sorry!!!! Looking forward to seeing you soon! Love, Mom

Sounds like fun- I enjoy running, sort of. I’ve got a funny knee, and it’s so dang hot here. But I like the scenery and the solitude, and I’m going to start running in the mornings as soon as the fire is put out. It’s a tad smoky right now. I have some body fat to lose, so I’m going to do some free weights in my trailer and intervals on my dirt. If you or John have favorite songs to run to, please share- I enjoy music while I run and need songs with good beats to keep my pace. Although, not having run in a year, I’ll be a slow turtle… a slow hymn. Sad!!!

haha haha ha, I beat you both combined too! I dont have exact numbers but I have been averaging 10 miles a week running, ( for 4 weeks ) and probably 20 miles a week biking. I think I finally got the kick from marcy when she got early one morning to run and i went fishing, and you couldt even tell she ran when I got done! The challenge was on.

John- I think the Nike+ cheats the system just like Zach said (see challenge blog note). But, being the honest person that I am I will explain that I did not run 10′s of 1000′s of miles around you but a few less! Here is how it goes.
On July 4th, I ran a 15 K (9.32 miles) but my Ipod said I ran 11 miles! So, I calculate that it has been off by 0.2 per mile. If I have a total of 123.28 miles for the challenge, I actually ran 98.62 miles! That is not the same, but I did still WIN! Please give me a trophy for your challenge.

The other sad thing about this change is that after I actually calibrated my Nike+ my pace is a lot slower. I did not think I could ever run a 9:30 min mile. But with the new callibration I know that to be true! I am back to a 12:30 min/mile! That really boosts your self esteem but is more realistic! But, I have not quit and I will be running two 1/2 marathons in August! If anyone would like to join they are the Provo 1/2 on August 9th and the Top of Utah 1/2 on August 23! Come on over Brian and Lindsay!

I still think I have been doing pretty good. Since I started with the Nike+ I have actually run 132.09 althought the Nike+ says I ran 161.61!

All I can say is once you start you get addicted…..I didn’t quite make 75, but I ran 58. I have never ran consistently in my life so, it was a good start. Thanks for the challenge, it really helped motivate me! Now I feel like I have to run at least every other day or else I feel blaahhh. Hope you all is well! Jenny
