You’re on my heart just like a tatoo?

Published by Becky under Our Blog

I liked Jordin Sparks when American Idol was on but have you heard her song?  Who writes these?  I think she is talented but she needs new writers.  That song is ridiculous!

P.S. I took another test yesterday.  I hope I passed so I don’t have to do it again.

P.S. x2 Thanks for all the comments on the memories post.  It was fun to read them and relive my youth!  Special thanks to my sweet husband for his comment. :)

Memories (of Becky - I will try to get John to do this too)

Published by Becky under Our Blog

I saw this pop up on four blogs yesterday so I need to get on the bandwagon.  Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you.

work…..

Published by John under Our Blog

I just slept for 3 hours in my truck. My eyes are still hurting from sleeping with my contacts in. I am also wondering if our client will noticed if I show up to our meeting this morning dressed the same as I was yesterday. I have a project worth over a million dollars and its only the first week of about 2 years of work. Not sure how or if I will make it through this project but one thing is for sure, when I am done, I can do anything I want. ~ John

why do country songs always make me cry?

Published by Becky under Our Blog

Country music is my favorite type of music.  It must be because I am a sap and the stories in the songs always make me sentimental.  When I was younger I used to listen to Reba McEntire’s CD “For My Broken Heart” over and over with my sister.  We thought that was the greatest CD.  That CD is full of sad songs.  It will make you cry.  I have to go on a tangent for a minute…I just looked up Reba’s website to see how to spell her name and there is a music video posted there that stars Steve Howey and Joanna Garcia - Reba’s daughter and son-in-law on her tv show.  That show is funny!  There aren’t any new episodes, so it was fun to see them together onscreen again.

Anyway, back to the music.  A while ago I was driving and I heard the song “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins.  He is not my favorite country singer (I like the older stuff better) but the song made me tear up!  I just kept thinking that I need to appreciate my life the way it is now and not wish for the future when I won’t have to take any more tests and we won’t live in an apartment and I will have kids.  I really have a lot to be grateful for now and I’m sure I will look back and miss these days when it was just me and John doing crazy things like moving to California without jobs.  It’s true too, I already look back and miss the times in the past.

Then today I was driving to work and I heard this song by Holly Dunn.  It totally made me cry!  One feature about my dad that I will always remember is his hands.  My dad is a farmer and his hands are calloused and black from all the dirt and oil he works with .  He has injured his hands so many times working out on the farm to take care of my family.  And just like the song says, I have seen his hands folded in prayer and many times he had to threaten us with his hands (and belt) but don’t worry, I don’t remember ever being hit.  One of my favorite memories is one day I was out helping my dad change water and we walked home holding hands and talking.  I love my dad!

It’s a good thing everyone else in my office is at lunch now because this is making me cry right here at my desk.

random things

Published by Becky under Our Blog

I used to write in a journal. A lot. My brothers used to steal it and read it. Maybe they didn’t really read it, I can’t imagine it would have been that interesting. This is the closest thing I have to a journal and in my journal I would write a lot of random stuff. So here is some random stuff. Someday I will have grandchildren and maybe they might be interested in the way I thought about things. If they are not they can skip this message, just like you can too if you are not interested!

  1. Since I don’t come home until after 10:00 these days (I stay late to study) I have not had time to go to Costco to get Kirkland/Mission tortilla strips. These chips are absolutely essential in our house. That is what John usually eats for dinner. Since we were out of chips I went to Ralph’s one night and paid $4.79 for a 28-oz. bag. The 48-oz. bag at Costco is only $3.09. Oh, well, maybe they are better chips. Wrong! The chips from Ralph’s are not near as good as the Costco chips. I thought the chips would be the same but the Costco chips are more airy (I don’t know how to describe it, but the Costco chips are better!)
  2. I discovered that on the local community college channel they sometimes play “ARTS” which is just clips of different performances, singing, dancing, and musical instruments. I find myself watching it sometimes. The other day there was a barbershop quartet type group singing a cool song. But it was in German. It was kind of weird, I never thought about how that kind of thing would sound in another language.
  3. I have discovered recently that if I can get a half-day at home I can get a lot done and I really enjoy it. On the Thursday before the Fourth of July I got off work early. I came home and got to organize all the stuff under the bathroom sink, I did a bunch of laundry, I packed for our trip. But the biggest project was that I pulled the stove out and cleaned underneath. I had noticed a pen and spoon down there a few weeks ago but didn’t want to bother. Who wants to clean up someone else’s mess anyway (one of the perks of living in an apartment). But on Thursday I was on a roll and I pulled the stove back and found this… (click on the image and zoom in if you really want to be grossed out.)

It looks like a mouse crawled under there to cut an onion and then changed his mind. So gross! I cleaned up most of the mess. I did not take an “after” picture because it’s not a clean as I would like. I probably should have spent this time cleaning the shower, but this was so much more fun!
