I won something!

Published by Becky under Our Blog

At work I listen to the radio on my computer and I always try calling in to win things but it never happens. Until today! I won tickets to see Wall-E at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood. When we went to see “Horton Hears a Who” (John’s favorite movie of the year so far) we saw the first preview for Wall-E and John has been talking about it since then. So when I heard about this giveaway I knew he would love it, even though the movie is at 6 AM!!!! and you have to get there early to get a good seat and watch the pre-show with all the Disney characters. After the movie we get breakfast too. We’re so excited.

t shirt

Published by Becky under Our Blog

This t-shirt has probably been all over the internet, but I still think it is cool.  One of my co-workers emailed it to me and said he would be surprised if I don’t own it.  I am always telling people at work that I am going to blog about our adventures.  They are usually shallow threats.

Goodbye Sister Schafer!

Published by Becky under Our Blog

Tuesday was transfer day and one of our missionaries is gone! Sister Schafer (blond) has been in our ward as long as we have been there (7 months) and it has been fun to get to know her and be able to help out the missionaries at times. In my home ward we did not have missionaries assigned so I never knew what it was like. She is a great missionary and whoever gets her in their ward is so lucky. She is extra cool because her name is Becky too! We will have to talk to Sister Carroll on Sunday to see where Sister Schafer was transferred to. And I am really excited to meet our new missionary.

Just like my dad

Published by Becky under Our Blog

John was watching tv tonight and he stopped on CBS to watch “The Notebook”.  We have not seen it so we watched and it was a great movie.  I cried just like my dad would.  And the rest of the night I made John promise he would take care of me when I get old.

All in a day’s work

Published by John under Our Blog

Yesterday there was a book fair outside our building so I went down with my friend John to see what they had.  He bought a book for our friend Matt called “Batman Math Made Easy.”  It’s a long story.  But a few of us in the office decided to start a new tradition, “Worksheet Wednesday”.  We will see how long it lasts.  I am proud to say that I was the first winner of the Worksheet Wednesday timed trial.  See below for my worksheet on the Simple Use of Parentheses.

After the math competition, I got to go help the Tax Practice Leader for the Southern California area on a project.  This guy is the boss of all of us here in the Irvine Grant Thornton tax department, as well as Woodland Hills, LA, and San Diego.  He has a cool office that even has a button above his computer that will shut the door for him so he doesn’t have to get up and close it.  I thought it was pretty neat.  Anyway, he needed some help updating a quarterly tax payment for one of his clients.  This client pays more tax in one quarter than John and I earn in wages combined in an entire year.  That means he has a lot of money.  It’s crazy when I think about it.

Every morning this week when I get to work I log on to see if I have received my test score.  Every day it says, “no credit” and I wonder if I failed or passed.  This morning I logged on and saw “no credit” but when I scrolled down to the bottom of the page and this is what I saw…(I need a 75 to pass)

CBT Exam Advisory Scores received from NASBA.
AUD: Schedule/Attendance Pending.
BEC Advisory Score: 78 - Attended: 05/27/2008 09:17:00
FAR: Schedule/Attendance Pending.
REG: Schedule/Attendance Pending.

I got really excited and called my friend John over (because he is waiting to get his score too) (P.S. John got his score and he beat me by one point).  Yay!  I passed my first test.  Now I have to pass 3 more before November 27, 2009 or else I will have to take this one over again.  What a stressful process!
