We went to Disneyland again! It’s been a while so we were really missing it. We got up really early on Saturday to go for a few hours. It is nice to have a pass and not feel like we have to spend the entire day there to get our money’s worth.
We started out in Innoventions to check out the new “House of the Future”. It is really new so there are still a lot of bugs. But it is cool. It is all about computers and networking everything in the house, from the lighting and the kitchen appliances to the music, tv, and the clothes closet in the daughter’s bedroom. They do have a fun story room where we heard the story of Peter Pan and got to shoot the cannon.

We didn’t ride many rides this time. Only the Matterhorn, Monster’s Inc., Roger Rabbit Toon Town, Gadget’s Go Coaster and Mullholand Madness. John likes the more mellow rollar coasters, he will ride Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain but you will never catch him on the California Screamin’. ( He has ridden the Tower of Terror twice and hated it both times, but he promised he would ride it with me again for our 5th anniversary and our 50th.)

We ordered an I-Scream sundae from the Burr-bank ice cream shop and it was SO MUCH BETTER than the one we ordered on New Year’s. We also got an exclusive Meet and Greet with Chip and Dale and a free 5×7 picture thanks to the Disney Credit Card (don’t worry, we haven’t activated it and we never will, we used it pay down the last of our credit card debt, but that’s a whole new post).

We wanted to ride the new Toy Story Ride in California Adventure but the line was way too long. We figure we will come back another day and stand in line when it is not so hot outside. Around noon we were ready to leave, but I convinced John to let me stay to watch the Disneyland Band. They played Disney movie music of course and it was awesome. I love how it is all these old guys who just really enjoy playing their instruments. It really made me want to get my clarinet out and play some more.

I miss Disneyland so much! I haven’t been in years. By the way, the band member playing the drums is my niece’s father in-law. I also want to mention that I still sometimes sleep with gloves and a hat on when it is terribly cold, Roy just laughs at me.
I’ve never been to Disneyland, and the thought of standing in long lines doesn’t sound fun to me at all, but some time I want to go so I can say I’ve been to Disneyland. I’m like John, I don’t like big roller coasters. And that sundae looks really good!
I haven’t been to Disneyland since 2000. I do love the band. Thinking about taking the kids stresses me out. I think thats why we haven’t been. I really like your ice cream picture.
I’m glad you had a fun day at Disneyland! My parents actually know that drummer in the band from a previous ward in Anaheim. I can’t remember his name off the top of my head but I’ve met him before. Congrats on the new niece as well!
Summer and Margie – When the band marched out on to Main Street I got so excited and I picked that drummer out as my favorite band member. Something about him just made me smile. (John will even attest that I said out loud that he was my favorite.) So during the performance I walked behind the main band members and took his picture. He smiled and waved at me. I will have to go talk to him next time and tell him he is very popular on my blog.
Andrea – the lines are not bad if you know how to work it and don’t stress yourself out. You should come sometime, it would be so fun!
Jocelyn – When you bring your kids to Disneyland (because you HAVE TO someday) I want to be there. I love the magic in the air.
When we go to Disneyland, we don’t have to wait in long lines. For example on Saturday when we went, we rode the Matterhorn, Roger Rabbit, and the roller coaster in Toon Town. Then we went to California Adventure and rode Monsters Inc, and Mulholland Madness 2 times in a row! We also saw, 3 exhibits and got our picture taken with Chip & Dale. We did all this in 4 hours!!
I think the longest line we waited in was 10 minutes. The key to Disneyland is knowing when to go, what to do and having a stack of FastPasses helps.
We have gone a few times with friends from church and have been able keep our time in lines down to 10-15 minutes. I remember one time, the line for Space Mountain was 50 minutes and there were no more FastPasses, all four of us got on the ride in less than 10 minutes!
So, if anyone wants some tips on how to not wait in lines and what order to do things let us know. I think we have figured it out.
That sundae looks soooo yummy! That is awesome that you guys no how to work the crowds at DL. I will have to get your tips! We are only 5 hours away and some friends of ours really want to go next year with us. I will let you know!
