I am really trying harder to not complain so much, but I have to put my two cents in on the new computer.
First, to me the look is not that much cooler than what I had before. As long as it works I am happy. The translucent views and flow of the windows just doesn’t impress me that much.
Second, John keeps saying how much easier to use macs are, but I am having a hard time figuring some of this stuff out. One thing I have learned is that I cannot customize things the way I could with windows. For example, we have all our pictures in “events” now rather than folders. But I cannot just sort the events the way I want to, and it is not very easy to drag and drop items into different folders events.
Third, John says apples are much better because you just plug everything in and it works. Well, it took us about 3 days to get the printer set up. And the cool bluetooth wireless keyboard we had was ok, but the 10-key was not compatible, so we had to buy the apple keyboard, which is really small and I’m still not used to it yet.
Fourth, apples have as many quirks as pcs as far as I can tell. I have seen programs freeze up and since I don’t know the apple version of control, alt, delete, I don’t know what to do when that happens. So I sit there for five minutes before I decide to just shut the computer down. I did figure out how to force quit something, but last time things froze up I couldn’t even do that. Another quirk - I still cannot type a capital z. That may not be an issue for many of you, but my brother’s name is zach and I was trying to type his name and I got really annoyed.
Fifth, and finally, the mac version of Quicken sucks. I won’t even go into the details, but if you google it you will see everyone else’s complaints and pleas to Intuit to come out with a better version. Anything would be better.
Enough complaining, I am glad to have a computer. And I enjoy watching my husband get really excited about his new purchases only to realize later that they have shortcomings too. (you should have seen him when we bought the pc laptop that we just sold)
