Making Money Monday

Published by John under Our Blog

I have a new investment strategy and so far it’s paying off. A few months ago I learned a little saying. “When people are greedy be fearful, when people are fearful be greedy.” So, last Monday I invested in Bear Stearns as people began to panic. The stock dropped from $30 to about $3 a share overnight. Today I sold all my shares for a 7 day profit of %164!

Gas is still cheap.

Published by John under Our Blog

I think the price of gas is still on the cheap. When compared to Europe and other developed countries our gas prices are low. The main issue is gas prices impact the cost of our food and goods. The price of gas is a regressive tax, the price hurts people with lower incomes the most.

The part that really bugs me is the price of gas is high because we made it high. All the crazy politicians we have been electing to the government (local, state, or federal) for about the last 100 years have been passing laws and other rules that have created high gas prices. The high price in gas is self imposed.

Its a combination of taxes, laws and regulation. Some of the regulations I am in favor of and would gladly pay for but I bet 90% of the stuff is crap. I think we should drill for oil where ever we can find it and start using more coal. But things won’t change until gas prices get even high and the people start demanding their politicians to really do something about the regulations and taxes tied to gas. Right now this whole hybrid, solar, and alternative energy movement is just a distraction from the real problem. Think about it, if gas was $1.00 a gallon would you seriously consider buying a car that was a hybrid. I sure would not! It would be pointless, you can buy a lot of gas for the $1-2000 premium they put on hybrids.

Until this whole mess is fixed in 50 years, I guess I will have to keep paying $3.54 a gallon at Costco!

Pay your bills!

Published by John under Our Blog

I got a surprise today when I talked to my Dad. My Dad is in the process of buying a Nissan Versa and we might finance it through my name because I can get a student discount on the car. Well the dealer ran my credit and my credit score is 775. I could not believe it, my score is better than my parents. My parents taught me one thing for sure; Pay your bills on time!

Sweet, now I can go put that Cadillac I want on my credit card!

Got Milk?

Published by John under Our Blog

Last Saturday we went to Trader Joe’s to buy some dairy. They actually have really good prices compared to the grocery stores in town. When we checked out the price of milk we got a shock! It was just $3.00 a gallon a week ago. Fortunately they just mis marked the price. The $6.00 a gallon price is for the ORGANIC milk.

We don’t own a computer anymore.  Can you believe that John does not own a computer?  I have a hard time believing it.  I personally am having withdrawals because I cannot get into Qucken to track my checking account.  At least I can go online, but online doesn’t tell me what’s coming up.  I am kind of obsessed with tracking my finances.

Anyway, I enjoy having this blog and hopefully you all enjoy reading it or at least looking at the pictures.  I wanted to spread the word about two new blogs on our blogroll.  My cousin Charlotte started one and she has one really nice picture so far of her husband and her son and some interesting updates on what she’s been doing.  Be sure to check it out.

Also, John’s good friend Keith has a blog now.  I have never met Keith, he moved to Texas right before I met John.  We are trying to get him to come out to CA for a visit.  He supposedly has a wife too, but I have never seen a picture of her in the two and a half years I have known John.  But I have seen lots of pictures of Keith’s dogs.  If you check out Keith and Anja’s blog you will see pictures of the dogs and the house but still no wife.  I don’t know if I believe she exists.
