New Year’s Resolutions

Published by John at 6:29 pm under Our Blog

Since we just had the new year everyone has been writing about their new year’s resolutions. I don’t really ever make those. No reason, I just don’t. I guess I kind of have one this year though, and that is to eat dessert again. And boy, I’ve done really well at it. In 2007 John and I decided to not eat dessert (ice cream/cake/pie/candy/chocolate/sugar cereal/etc.). We were copying my sister who has been doing this for a couple years now. I’ve tried doing this before but I never stick to it, so we decided to give ourselves incentive. We decided that if we made it through the year we could go on a cruise. We made it a year without dessert, but I don’t know if we’ll make it on our cruise for a long time. Anyway, the reason I wanted to share this is because of the huge disappointment we had when we finally got to eat a hot fudge sundae. You can only imagine the anticipation we had as we walked along Main Street in Disneyland at 12:01 on New Year’s morning. The sweet smell had me hypnotized and I had to have something with sugar in it. (Did you know they pump out smells in the air and it’s not even the stuff they sell in the stores?) We were so excited that we didn’t think twice when the hot fudge sundae cost us $6.00. John sundae After all, it had two scoops of delicious vanilla ice cream, two chocolate chip cookies, hot fudge, whipped cream, chocolate chips and a cherry on top. What a treat! We waited patiently for our sundae and when we saw it, we were immediately disappointed. It was in a tiny little cup, the cherry fell on the floor when we picked it up off the counter, there was no hot fudge to be seen (they put it in the cup before the ice cream) and the chocolate chip cookies were very small and flat and not warm like I thought they should be. Needless to say, we were very deflated as we ate that sundae. After a full year this is all we got. But, do not worry, I have had enough treats since then to make up for it all. I think I should start up the no sugar diet again.

P.S. The evening was not a complete failure. We spent New Years Eve at Disneyland with thousands of other people and it was actually pretty fun. We got to ride a bunch of rides even with so many people there and they gave us free hats and noise makers. I would do it again so if anyone wants to come next year just let me know!

I cannot believe you went a whole year without dessert! There is no way I could do that! I’m very impressed – and Disneyland on New Year’s sounds so fun. I’m jealous!
