Word travels fast, I just got four phone calls that President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away this evening. He has been an awesome prophet and we will miss him dearly. Although, I am happy for him because he always made it clear that he loved his wife and wanted to be with her.
So I’m sitting here doing all my organizing/finances/etc. on the computer with iTunes on random when I hear a voice from my past. One of John’s Limp Bizkit songs is playing along like a normal song when all of a sudden I hear a very familiar voice. It’s the Speak & Spell! Remember that cool toy? I remember playing with that thing when I was a kid with the plastic buttons and the weird voice. So, of course I googled it and found this internet version. It only has a few words but it was fun to play with and brought back memories of playing with the talking red box in the basement. Enjoy!
Since we just had the new year everyone has been writing about their new year’s resolutions. I don’t really ever make those. No reason, I just don’t. I guess I kind of have one this year though, and that is to eat dessert again. And boy, I’ve done really well at it. In 2007 John and I decided to not eat dessert (ice cream/cake/pie/candy/chocolate/sugar cereal/etc.). We were copying my sister who has been doing this for a couple years now. I’ve tried doing this before but I never stick to it, so we decided to give ourselves incentive. We decided that if we made it through the year we could go on a cruise. We made it a year without dessert, but I don’t know if we’ll make it on our cruise for a long time. Anyway, the reason I wanted to share this is because of the huge disappointment we had when we finally got to eat a hot fudge sundae. You can only imagine the anticipation we had as we walked along Main Street in Disneyland at 12:01 on New Year’s morning. The sweet smell had me hypnotized and I had to have something with sugar in it. (Did you know they pump out smells in the air and it’s not even the stuff they sell in the stores?) We were so excited that we didn’t think twice when the hot fudge sundae cost us $6.00. After all, it had two scoops of delicious vanilla ice cream, two chocolate chip cookies, hot fudge, whipped cream, chocolate chips and a cherry on top. What a treat! We waited patiently for our sundae and when we saw it, we were immediately disappointed. It was in a tiny little cup, the cherry fell on the floor when we picked it up off the counter, there was no hot fudge to be seen (they put it in the cup before the ice cream) and the chocolate chip cookies were very small and flat and not warm like I thought they should be. Needless to say, we were very deflated as we ate that sundae. After a full year this is all we got. But, do not worry, I have had enough treats since then to make up for it all. I think I should start up the no sugar diet again.
P.S. The evening was not a complete failure. We spent New Years Eve at Disneyland with thousands of other people and it was actually pretty fun. We got to ride a bunch of rides even with so many people there and they gave us free hats and noise makers. I would do it again so if anyone wants to come next year just let me know!
I (Becky) was reading the headlines on msn.com and found this settlement for anyone who’s purchased diamonds in the last 14 years. Looks like you could get some money back. It may not turn out to be much, but you never know!
