October 16
This is a very special day for me. My sister-in-law (Mariah) and my Grandma Anderson were both born on October 16 (1993 & 1916). They are both very special ladies and I am excited for today. I can’t tell Grandma happy birthday because she passed away a few years ago, but happy birthday Mariah!
Mariah woke us up this morning screaming because she got a cell phone for her birthday. She has been arguing for the phone for a while now. She’s also getting an iPod tonight so we got her an iTunes gift card. (I hope she doesn’t read my blog at school!) This seems like a weird birthday for a girl who does not have patience for technology, but these are the things she really wants. Leo laid-off today so he could be home for Mariah’s birthday. She is going to have a great day. I’m so glad I joined the family while she is still young so I can watch her grow up!

My Grandma will always be a special lady to me. I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with her when I was a child (she lived a mile down the road and always made me walk over). My best memories of Grandma fall between the two pictures posted below, when she was grandma age and still full of energy. We all miss her very much and are grateful for the lessons she taught us.
I have a few letters I got from a closet at home and some of them were from Grandma to Grandpa while he was still on his mission in June 1940. (They met while serving in the Canadian mission and she came home a few months before he did.) It was really fun to read these letters and I really enjoyed this particular paragraph:
“No, I haven’t been on a date yet and I don’t believe I’ll be going. Guess I’ll have to wait for you to come home. Will you feel sorry for me and take me out once? Its hopeless for me around here.”
