Double Trouble
Since we have moved to California, we have been performing odd jobs for people in the ward. We have been house sitting, pet sitting, and baby sitting. Last week John and I got to babysit four kids in our ward. They included 7-year old Levi, 4-year old Gabe, and 6-month old Andreas and Nicolai. It was quite an adventure, especially for John. Most of the night was calm and easy, but when we got the twins out for their bottles they started wiggling around quite a bit. Those boys did not want to stay still. We fed them their bottles and the John was holding Andreas while I had Nicolai on the couch behind him. All of a sudden, Andreas spit up all over John’s leg, and John handed him to me and got cleaned off. I was trying to help John clean up the mess, while keeping track of both babies. Nicolai started rolling off the couch and I caught him in one hand while I held Andreas in the other. I think Levi was laughing at us while this was all going on.
When it came time for bed, I tried to put Andreas in this sling and put him to sleep, but he would have none of it. We switched babies and John held Andreas while I tried putting the other baby in the sling and it worked like magic. Nicolai went right to sleep. Meanwhile, John was back in the bedroom struggling with Andreas, who was screaming his lungs out. My little brother called me and I was on the phone when John came out looking for help. I hung up the phone, put Nicolai down in bed, and took Andreas from John. I held Andreas in the sling until he finally cried himself to sleep.
Overall, I think we had a good time. We had two boys in bed (still awake), one baby who was asleep but woke up just in time, and the other baby almost asleep when the parents got home.
Now, the other twins we used to babysit in Utah were much easier, probably because they were well-trained two-year-olds and we had Colton to help us. Here is an adorable picture of McKay and Kaci in the Easter dresses Kari made for them. (Since we don’t have our own kids I’m putting a picture of them.)
